The Native American Shoshones called this the Tres Tetons or Three Breasts. The name eventually became the Grand Tetons or Big Breasts from the French fur trappers of the era. The area around Jackson Hole became famous for the Rendezvous of the trappers from the 1830's and was named after the Jackson Sublette Company.
